What Will TikTok Ads Really Cost Your Business?

A free TikTok Ads cost and break-even calculator for small and growing businesses. Most cost calculators only look at media spend — this one adds the creative-production and management cost TikTok actually requires, and shows both a media-only and a fully loaded acquisition cost so the second number doesn't surprise you later. No email required, and no guarantee about what a real campaign will do — this is a break-even estimate, not a forecast.

Your numbers

Every field updates the result instantly. Don't know a number exactly? See the guidance below the methodology.

Used to label your result. It doesn't change the numbers below — benchmark figures are platform-wide, not region-specific.
Also label-only. It doesn't change the numbers below.
Sets the default CTR/CPC/CPM/conversion-rate benchmarks below. Override any of them in "Numbers you already know".
Ad spend only — creative production and management are entered separately below.
Used to check your budget against TikTok's per-ad-group minimum, not just the campaign total.
What one paying customer is worth on average — a single order, or a first booking if you sell recurring work.
What's left of the sale price after cost of goods, fulfillment and direct delivery costs — not after overhead or your own time.
Of the people who click through from a TikTok ad, what share end up a paying customer?
Net-new production, before any offset from existing organic videos (advanced inputs below).
Filming, editing and any creator or UGC fee, per video.
Internal team time or an agency fee for running the account — not the media budget itself.
Does your conversion tracking actually work?
Without reliable tracking, TikTok's delivery system can't optimize toward customers, and neither can you.
Numbers you already know (optional)

Replace any benchmark default with your own figure. Leave a field blank to keep using the objective's benchmark.

Only used if CPC above is blank.
Replaces the CTR/CPC-derived estimate entirely.
Reduces new videos required 1:1 — a boosted organic post needs no new production.

Methodology

How this is calculated

Three cost lines feed every result, not just media:

Required creative outputnew videos needed per month − existing organic videos usable as Spark Ads
Creative-production budgetrequired creative output × cost per video
Total investmentmedia budget + creative-production budget + management cost
Value per customercustomer value × gross margin × lifetime-value multiplier
Break-even CPA (fully loaded)equal to value per customer — the most a customer can cost, across all three lines combined, before the campaign loses money
Media-only acquisition costcost per click ÷ conversion rate
Fully loaded acquisition costtotal investment ÷ expected customers, at the same conversion rate

Worked example, using the default numbers above: a $120 average sale, 55% gross margin gives a value per customer, and break-even CPA, of $66.00. Six new videos a month at $150 each is a $900.00 creative budget; add the $600.00 management cost and the $2,000 media budget for a $3500.00 total monthly investment. In the expected scenario that buys a media-only acquisition cost of $22.00— but once the fixed creative and management cost is spread across the same expected customers, the fully loaded cost per customer rises to $38.50. That gap is the whole reason this calculator reports both numbers rather than only the flattering one.

We don't recommend spending right up to break-even. The calculator only calls the fully loaded acquisition cost "affordable" up to 70% of strict break-even —$46.20 in the example above — leaving room for real-world variance. Spending exactly at break-even means zero profit even if every other number holds exactly true, which real campaigns rarely do.

Why three scenarios. Conservative assumes both weaker performance (a 25% lower click-through and conversion rate) and a higher cost per click (25% higher); optimistic assumes the opposite. Creative and management costs are held fixed across all three — they are closer to a committed monthly cost than an auction outcome — which is why the fully loaded acquisition cost moves more between scenarios than the media-only one: the same fixed cost is being divided by a smaller or larger number of expected customers.

Test-size floor. The calculator looks for a budget that buys at least 50 clicks and, where your conversion rate allows it, enough clicks to expect around 5 conversions. This is a practical rule of thumb, not a statistical guarantee — and it is deliberately separate from TikTok's own platform minimum, which answers a different question. See "TikTok's minimum budget versus a realistic test budget" in the FAQ below.

What decides the band: if the fully loaded economics don't clear break-even in the expected scenario, the result is "currently uneconomical" regardless of budget or tracking — no amount of operational fixing changes bad unit economics. If the economics work but the budget can't buy a large-enough test, or conversion tracking isn't reliable, or the conservative scenario alone erodes the safety margin, the result is "uncertain" and names which of those it is. Only when all four clear do we call it "promising."

What makes TikTok different

Media spend versus creative-production cost

On Google or Meta, a business can often run a campaign on repurposed creative — a static image, a product photo, a landing-page screenshot — with media spend as close to the whole cost. TikTok's format expects native, fast-turnaround, vertical video, and performance tends to degrade as the same handful of videos fatigue with an audience. That makes a steady supply of new creative closer to a recurring operating cost than a one-time production expense, which is why this calculator prices it as its own line rather than folding it into "management."

Spark Ads — boosting an existing organic TikTok post, yours or an authorized creator's, instead of uploading a new ad-only video — is the main way to reduce that recurring cost. If a business already posts organically, some of that library may be usable as Spark Ads and reduce the net-new videos a monthly budget has to pay for; enter that count in the advanced inputs above.

There's no universal answer for how many videos a campaign needs — it depends on audience size, posting cadence and how quickly creative fatigues for a given product and audience. Treat the videos-per-month input as your own working estimate, and revise it once you have a few weeks of real delivery data.

If you don't know your numbers

Reasonable starting points

Use these to get a first result, then replace them with your own numbers as soon as you have them — they are starting points to test with, not benchmarks to hit:

  • Conversion rate: platform-wide reporting puts TikTok's average around 2%, but this varies a great deal by product, price point and landing-page fit — see Mega Digital, "TikTok Ad Benchmarks" (2026 update, aggregating Lebesgue and TikAdSuite data) (https://megadigital.ai/en/blog/tiktok-ad-benchmarks/), checked 2026-08-27.
  • Cost per click: directionally $0.10–$1.00, and CPM around $4.80 — see the same source. Treat any single number as a rough starting point, not a quote.
  • Gross margin: what's left of the sale price after cost of goods, fulfillment and direct delivery costs, not after overhead, rent or your own time.
  • Production cost per video: varies enormously by whether it's shot in-house, by a creator, or by an agency — a rough range for a simple UGC-style video is commonly two to a few hundred dollars; a more produced piece runs higher.

Benchmark source: Platform-wide average CTR (0.61%), CPM ($4.80), conversion rate (2.01%) and a $0.10–$1.00 CPC range across TikTok advertiser accounts, aggregated from Lebesgue and TikAdSuite data. Not broken out by campaign objective — the same platform-wide figures are applied to every objective here. The default CPC used below ($0.55) is the mid-point of the publisher’s stated range, not a reported average. Geography: Not disclosed by the publisher — treat as directional, not region-specific.

Questions

Common questions

There's no fixed price — like Google and Meta, TikTok runs an auction, and what you pay depends on your objective, audience, competition and creative quality. Directionally, platform-wide reporting puts average cost per click somewhere in a $0.10–$1.00 range and cost per 1,000 impressions (CPM) around $4.80, but individual accounts routinely fall outside that band in either direction (see "Mega Digital, "TikTok Ad Benchmarks" (2026 update, aggregating Lebesgue and TikAdSuite data)", last checked 2026-08-27). TikTok is also the only calculator in this family where media spend is not the whole cost — see "Media spend versus creative-production cost" below.

TikTok enforces a campaign daily/lifetime budget above $50 and an ad-group daily budget above $20, and recommends at least $30/day per ad group for North American and EMEA web-conversion campaigns (TikTok for Business, "Budget" and "How it works: Budgeting", checked 2026-08-27). None of those numbers is evidence that the amount is enough to learn anything — see the next question.

The minimum is what TikTok's system will let you spend; a realistic test budget is what your own numbers say you need to see a meaningful result. The calculator above computes both separately and never treats the platform minimum as proof the second one is met — a budget can clear TikTok's own floor and still be too small to tell you anything, particularly at a low conversion rate.

There's no universal number — it depends on your posting cadence, how fast creative fatigues in your audience, and how much of your library is already usable as Spark Ads (see the next question). The calculator asks for your own estimate of new videos needed per month and prices it as a real, recurring cost alongside media spend, because a campaign that runs out of fresh creative usually degrades in performance before the media budget is the limiting factor.

Spark Ads let you boost an existing organic TikTok post — yours or a creator's, with authorization — instead of uploading a new, ad-only video. If you already have organic videos that could be used this way, they reduce how many net-new videos your monthly production budget has to pay for; enter the count in the advanced inputs above and the calculator adjusts the required creative output and its cost accordingly.

Media-only is what a customer costs from ad spend alone — the number most cost calculators stop at. Fully loaded divides your total monthly investment (media plus creative production plus management) by the same expected customer count. The two can differ a lot: a campaign that looks cheap on media alone can still lose money once a video-production retainer is added on top, which is why this calculator reports both rather than only the flattering one.

Directionally, TikTok's reported average CPC tends to run below Meta's, and CPMs are often described as somewhat lower too — but averages hide wide variation by industry, objective and creative fit, and TikTok's format expects native, fast-turnaround video rather than repurposed static Meta creative. A lower reported CPC does not automatically mean a lower cost per customer once creative-production cadence is priced in, which is the whole reason this calculator exists. If you're weighing the two, the Facebook Ads calculator uses the same break-even framework and is worth running side by side.

They answer different kinds of demand. Google Ads largely captures people already searching for what you sell, so its economics tend to hinge on click quality and landing-page conversion. TikTok reaches people who weren't looking for you yet, so its economics hinge more on creative — how many videos you can keep producing and how well they stop the scroll. A business with strong search intent and a thin creative pipeline may do better starting with Google; a business with a fast content engine and a visual, impulse-friendly product is a more natural TikTok fit. Our Google Ads calculator uses the same break-even logic if you want to compare both.

Objective and bid strategy, audience size and overlap with other advertisers, placement (In-Feed versus Spark Ads versus TopView and other premium formats), competition and seasonality, creative quality and watch-through rate, and whether conversion tracking is set up well enough for TikTok's delivery system to optimize against it. The calculator can't see any of these directly — it works from the numbers you enter, plus disclosed benchmark defaults where you leave a field blank.

Comparing channels

Weighing TikTok against another channel?

Both of the other calculators in this family use the same break-even logic, so results are directly comparable. Before you plan content around any channel, the AI Search Readiness Audit checks whether search and answer engines can discover and understand your site. See every free tool on the tools hub.
